After years of hoarding tools I barely used, I finally decided it was time to sort everything out properly. I had somehow ended up with multiple cordless drills, three tall toolboxes full of hand tools and far more equipment than someone who is not even a tradesman really needs. So, I spent an afternoon going through everything, organising the useful bits and giving my Black & Decker tools their own dedicated place on the wall.
The wall itself will be getting redone soon, but even at this stage it already looks far better than having everything piled into boxes.
Why Black & Decker?

I am fully aware that Black & Decker is not DeWalt, Milwaukee or one of the other premium professional brands. However, for people like me who simply need the right tool for jobs around the home, workshop or workplace, Black & Decker is a perfectly good choice.
The tools are affordable, easy to find and more than capable of handling the sort of work most home users will throw at them.
Once I had everything arranged on the wall, I wanted a small Black & Decker sign to finish the area off. That should have been the easy part.
Trying to Find a Black & Decker Sign
It turns out that buying a suitable Black & Decker workshop sign in the UK is surprisingly difficult.
I searched all over the internet and found very little. The few suitable signs I did find were mostly being imported from the United States, with some costing close to £100 once delivery and import costs were included.
That was far more than I was willing to pay for a simple workshop sign.
So We 3D Printed One
The next best option was to make one ourselves. I created and printed a compact Black & Decker wall sign using black and orange PLA filament. It is not oversized or overcomplicated. It is simply the familiar logo, printed in solid plastic and designed to be screwed directly onto the wall.
For what I wanted, it came out perfectly! The finished sign gives the tool wall a proper identity without dominating the space, and the raised lettering and contrasting colours look far better than a basic printed paper sign.
Printer and Settings Used
I printed the sign using a FlashForge AD5X multi-colour 3D printer.
- Printer: FlashForge AD5X
- Nozzle: 0.4mm
- Material: PLA
- Colours: Black and orange
- File format: 3MF
The multi-colour printing made the job straightforward, with the orange logo standing out cleanly against the black backing.
Still Enjoying Every Successful Print
I am still quite new to 3D printing, so anything that comes off the build plate looking flawless receives a ridiculous amount of admiration. It gets inspected, admired, stroked and enjoyed far more than a small plastic sign probably should.
That is part of the fun of getting into 3D printing. Even something relatively simple feels rewarding when it comes out exactly as planned, especially when it solves a problem that would otherwise have meant spending far too much money.
